Wolf & Clover: twelvemonth and a day
About the Songs
The Columbus Set – One of the alternative names for the first tune, used here (typically referred to as Molly Bawn) is The Georgia Belle. The other tunes are River Skimmer and Winter in Columbus. A celebration of our hometown of Columbus, GA.
The Animal Set – A funny set created by just picking tunes with animals in their names. Crested Hens, Emmet’s Hedgehog, Gathering Sheep.
The Unquiet Grave – Our version is among many recorded by a variety of artists. This song possibly dates to the 16th century.
The James Carville Set – A set inspired by the political operative, possibly the only human to have ever lived that could justify these two tunes back-to-back. The Congress, Funk the Cajun Blues.
An Rógaire Dubh (The Dark-Haired Rogue) – A traditional song sung in the Irish language, sometimes performed in the Sean Nós style or as a standalone jig.
The Whistle Set – This track features our whistle player Chris as the leader. He also composed the 2nd tune in honor of his daughter. Dancing Donkeys, Ella’s Jig, Phrygian Whistle.
An Eriskay Love Lilt – A traditional song sung in the Irish language, first published in 1909 but is far older. Usually sung in Scottish Gaelic, this translation was modified from the version on omniglot.com.
The Suitor Set – A semi-programmatic love story – Emma’s Waltz, Lonesome Eyes, The Four Kisses.
The Bedroom Set – Another “love” story, with sneakier titles of the tunes – Snug in the Blanket, Behind the Bush in the Garden, Wallop the Spot.
Into the Mystic (Van Morrison cover). The tune we’ve added is The Gypsy.
O’Carolan’s Farewell – A haunting air, said to have been O’Carolan’s final composition as he lay on his deathbed in 1738.
